Use sedation dentistry to ease dental anxiety
At Ten Mile Smiles, we understand that patients of all ages deal with dental anxiety and phobias. A fear of the dentist can happen at any time and often keeps patients away from the dentist–also keeping them from getting the necessary dental work they need for healthy smiles. Our team, including Drs. Bernt White, Warren Willis, and Chad Cooley, work directly with patients to educate them on ways to combat their dental phobia with sedation dentistry options such as oral conscious sedation.
What is oral conscious sedation?
With oral conscious sedation, you can feel more relaxed during your visit. Oral conscious sedation is a unique method of sedation dentistry that allows our team to put you at ease during your appointment to ensure dental work is completed successfully–all while combating your dental phobias. This variety of sedation requires patients to obtain a prescription pill at the pharmacy before their appointment. This pill is a sedative taken approximately one hour before their dental appointment. Patients must arrange transportation to and from the dental office as they cannot drive or operate a motor vehicle while the medication is in their system.
Patients arrive at the office able to follow directions, answer questions, and even use the restroom but are relaxed and at ease. Patients often leave the office and return home to rest, typically waking up hours later without any memories of their appointment–but their dental work completed! We use sedation dentistry for patients with moderate to severe anxiety when visiting the dentist’s chair and have found that it has relieved many patients of their fears with time.
